Eco-minded Volunteers Needed for LOVE Run.

wastewatchersThe Mayor’s Office of Sustainability is partnering with the Mayor’s Office of Civic Engagement and Volunteer Service, and the LOVE Run to create a team of Waste Watchers­–volunteers who help educate race attendees about recycling and compost while also helping the LOVE Run reach maximum waste diversion from landfills. At the race Start/Finish, water stops, and spectator areas, Waste Watcher volunteers will help event-goers sort their trash, recycling, and compost into the right containers.

Volunteers needed for Waste Watchers at the Philadelphia Marathon

Help support the Mayor’s Office of Sustainability, the Mayor’s Office of Civic Engagement and Volunteer Service, and the Gore-Tex Philadelphia Marathon achieve the ambitious goal of 85+% waste diversion by becoming a Waste Watchers Volunteer. Volunteers assist race attendees with sorting their trash, recycling, and compost into the correct bins, and spread awareness about composting and recycling practices. Volunteers receive a fun and informative sustainability training and an exclusive Waste Watchers sweatshirt at the start of their shift. Available shifts are listed below:

Saturday, November 22nd, Kids Fun Run and Rothman 8k

-6:30am-10:30am at Mile 3 Water Stop

-6:30am-12:00pm at Start/Finish Line

Sunday, November 23rd, Philadelphia Marathon

-6:00am-10:00am at Start/Finish Line

-9:00am-1:30pm at Start/Finish Line

-12:30pm-3:30pm at Start/Finish Line

 How to register:

Anyone can be a Waste Watcher volunteer. Student groups, families, and individuals of all ages who value sustainability are encouraged to register.
